I’ve been here for about 6 months and I can name numerous things I will be hard pressed to take for granted again. (Living a walk or short bike ride from people I love, hot showers, uncensored internet, washing machines WITH dryers, traffic rules, high speed connections…) This week, I re-realized how much I appreciate electricity. Oh the power of power.
Even though it is the dry season, we’ve had a few days of random sprinkles. What happens when water falls from the sky in Ba Ria? The power goes out. What happens with the wind blows a little too hard? The power goes out. What happens if there is overcast? The power goes out. What happens if it is too hot? The power goes out.
Now this wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to take a freezing cold shower in the dark or if I wasn’t in the middle of making dinner on my electric stove (now I know why most Vietnamese people have gas stoves). Oh well, we’ll make chili tomorrow!

In Nicaragua the power went out all the time (APAGON!!!!), and everyone would run outside to play around and have fun. Maybe that's just because I was in a beach town. You should try it!
