Cooking in Vietnam!

I’ve been on a spaghetti kick recently. Though I was never an avid spaghetti fan in the states, here it just seems like a delicacy. So, today after I got out of class I rode to the market and picked up some onions, tomatoes and other ingredients for what had imagined to be a stupendous spaghetti meal.

Please keep in mind that I live in a small studio (Vietnamese standards) and I have a small hot plate as my “kitchen”. In all seriousness though, I think my housing is miles above many of my colleagues and I am very grateful for what I have. (Though, a little hot water for my showers would be great… but I digress.)

It started off a little rough; I had to work really hard to get the tomato base. Then I added the Vietnamese basil which is nothing like the basil I’m use to. After adding all of the ingredients, the concoction started to look like real food. (YAY!) Long story short, the sauce was awesome!

But my lunch… not so much.

Turns out what I should have been concerned with were the noodles. Vietnamese noodles NE* noodles in the states. Therefore, food NE good.

I contemplated eating the sauce like soup, but decided maybe not the healthy choice. I’ll go back to the market some time soon to see if I can find better noodles.

In conclusion, Uyen can cook even when she only has a hot plate but Vietnamese noodles taste bad.

* NE --> Not equal to (Yay MAT 300! Just kidding I really didn't like that class, but still it is entertaining enough.)
